More Villa Poppea

I didn't get many photos...it was pretty amazing. I took a private tour. It was Nero's 3rd wife's summer house. It had a massive swimming pool and is in great shape due to it being found later and reconstructed with newer techniques. I would like to have bought a book but no bookstore. It was originally on the sea.  The slave passageways were marked with zebra stripes! Amazing. There was an earthquake a few years earlier than the volcanic  eruption so they think this villa was under construction to repair damage. I was told the villa next door had 54 people in it with lots of jewels. The frescoes were rally amazing. I also learned that the peacock was the symbol for the emperor as it represents eternal life. He told me that it takes 20 years for a peacock to completely decompose. Who knew.
