Herculaeum that the Italians call Ercolano. This site is closer to the bay than Pompeii. You can see Vesuvius in the 2nd photo. Ercolano go the brunt of the lava. This entire area is filled with possible sites. All is sunk deep into the ground. People just built right on top of the lava. There are big areas that are just fenced off in the town that are possible archeological sites, but the Italian gov. is very poor and cannot keep on top of all of the restoration that needs to be done.
Ercolano is smaller, much smaller than Pompeii.
