American Cemetery in Anzio

Such a lovely statue and a very peaceful place.  ( reminds me of my father in a way.) Being the nerd that I am I see that the flags were not at half mast. I asked the Italian security guard and he called a woman that worked in the office. She was American and came out to talk to me...I asked he about the flags ( as we had just lost 13 soldiers) and she said OH NO, I forgot. She got into her golf cart to drive up to bring them down...she said to me..."I'm so embarrassed.". No problem...
